Rock, Stride, Ride.
Why Balance First?
Traditional bikes, tricyles and training wheels overwhelm children with too much at once; by learning balance first, kids develop real skills faster, safer, and with more confidence.
Phase 1: Discovery Phase (0–24 months)
Everything starts with play. Using the Strider 2-in-1 Rocking Bike; a balance bike that rocks like a rocking horse. Your child begins their Strider journey by simply making friends with the bike. This phase is all about comfort, curiosity, and connection
- Core Riding Skills: Sensory exploration, discovering the seat, moving with the bike, and beginning to develop a sense of balance and center of gravity.
- Broader Developmental Skills: Early gross motor skills: reaching, grabbing, and building core strength; alongside growing confidence and sensory awareness.
Basic Balanced Riding (1–4 years)
Once comfort and curiosity are established, the journey takes its next natural step. On the Strider 12, your child progresses from playful exploration to purposeful movement; striding, walking, and running while seated, feet firmly on the ground. As balance and steering develop, they begin lifting their feet and gliding. That first glide is the aha! moment: balance clicks, and two-wheeled confidence is born.
- Core Riding Skills: Seated striding, developing center of gravity, and achieving two-wheeled gliding.
- Broader Developmental Skills: Focus, coordination, concentration, confidence, and independence.
Advanced Balanced Riding (3–6 years)
With gliding mastered, your child is ready to push further. This is where the fun truly accelerates. On the Strider 14x, little riders go beyond balance; standing on footrests, leaning into turns, picking up speed, and tackling varied terrain with growing ease. Each new challenge builds on the last, turning confident gliders into fearless, independent adventurers.
- Core Riding Skills: Standing on footrests, navigating obstacles and varied terrain, gaining speed, and mastering leaning into turns.
- Broader Developmental Skills: Advanced coordination, problem-solving, environmental awareness, and resilience.
Independent Pedaling (3–6 years)
With balance fully mastered, the final transition happens naturally and effortlessly. The Strider 14x simply converts to a pedal bike, and your child takes it from there. No training wheels, no frustration. They stride to build momentum, find the pedals, glide, and then pedal away on their own, a moment every parent remembers.
- Core Riding Skills: Transitioning from striding to pedaling, using dual propulsion to build momentum, and achieving independent two-wheeled riding.
- Broader Developmental Skills: Full independence, freedom, and the confidence to take on the world.

How it works
The Strider method simplifies learning to ride a bike by focusing on one skill at a time. It's a natural progression often described as "Rock, Stride, Ride.”
Rock
Initially, children get comfortable with the bike's feel,
beginning with the Strider 2-in-1
Rocking Bike for early
exploration.
Stride
From there, they progress to striding with their feet
on the ground, naturally learning balance and how to
steer. As their confidence grows, they begin to lift
their feet and glide, experiencing two-wheeled
momentum.
Ride
Finally, with balance mastered, they transition to advanced riding
and pedaling. This systematic approach ensures a low-stress,
successful journey to independent riding.
